12-year-old accidentally shot in Jonesboro Saturday

A 12-year-old boy accidentally shot Saturday while playing with a firearm at a Jonesboro home remains in critical condition.
The boy was life-flighted to an area hospital Saturday following the accident, according to the Clayton County Police Department. He underwent surgery Saturday and remains in intensive care Monday, the department said in an emailed statement.
CCPD was called to the Fitzgerald Road home in Jonesboro around 3:30 p.m. Saturday. A preliminary investigation indicated three children — ages 10, 11 and 12 — were playing when they discovered a gun in the home, CCPD spokeswoman Sgt. Ashanti Marbury stated in a press release.
When the 11-year-old attempted to put the gun back where it was found, the gun discharged, hitting the 12-year-old at least once, Marbury stated.
An adult was home with the children at the time of the shooting but was in another area of the house, police reported.
Detectives said Saturday they had not yet confirmed the firearm’s owner, according to the release.
“At this time, we do not anticipate any charges being filed,” Marbury said Monday in an emailed statement.
The police department will not be releasing the names of the victim or other children involved in the shooting.
An investigation is ongoing.
