2 docked for making unlawful statement to police




Two men, Patrick Onomhante, 54, and Dickson Igoche, 52, have been arraigned before a magistrate’s court sitting in Ikeja over alleged conspiracy to commit felony, among others.

They were also arraigned for false accusation and making false statement to a public officer, knowing that such person is innocent of the alleged offence. The accused were
arraigned before the court presided over by Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi, on a three-count charge of conspiracy, false accusation and false statement to a public officer. They were also docked over false accusation, causing one Paul Njoku to be charged with an offence of threat to life and unlawful diversion of Fountain Guards Limited assets knowing same to be false. Onomhante and Igoche were further charged for giving false information to the police. The defendants, who pleaded not guilty were said to have committed the offence on February 26, 2014 at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, CIID, Yaba, Lagos. According to the prosecutor, Inspector Simon Onomhante, the offence is contrary to Sections 94, 95 (c) and 96 (b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011. The defence counsel, A. E. P. Oyenetor, informed the court that the first defendant is his uncle and the father of Miss Ugoche, his learned friend, who bear the same surname. According to him, “I am here to show my certificate. This matter has been taken to another court and the defendants have been in custody since.” The prosecutor did not oppose to the bail application filed by the defendant. The magistrate then granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the matter until January 13, 2017.
