Court indicts 62 soldiers over Turkish coup
A Turkish court on Monday accepted an indictment against
62 soldiers, including 28 officers, who are accused of involvement in the July
15 failed coup attempt, a media report said.
Report says this is the first
indictment since the coup and relates to a specific incident
during the night,
when soldiers tried to take over the Sabiha Gokcen airport on the Asian side of
Istanbul.
Meanwhile, an Istanbul prosecutor is seeking multiple life
sentences for some and 15 years for others.
They are charged with trying to
overthrow the government and membership in an illegal armed organisation.
The government accused U.S.-based
Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen of orchestrating the coup.
He, however denied the charges.
Reports say no fewer than 37,000
people are under arrest in Turkey in relation to the coup.
