Gabriel Jesus targets Premier League title after winning Brazilian Serie A
Gabriel Jesus has set his sights on
winning the Premier League after clinching the Brazilian championship with
Palmeiras.
The Brazil forward, 19, will join up with new side Manchester
City in January after signing a five-year deal with the club in August. He
remained on loan at Palmeiras until the end
of the Brazilian championship and
was in tears on Sunday as they won a record ninth title with a 1-0 home victory
over Chapecoense.
Gabriel Jesus, who also won Olympic gold for Brazil in the
summer, is now hoping to make an impact for Pep Guardiola’s side.
“Here in Brazil I got the habit of winning titles, now I hope
there are many more to celebrate in the future,” he told reporters on the pitch
during the postmatch celebrations.
Gabriel Jesus is regarded as one of
the most exciting talents to emerge from Brazil in recent years and City fought
off competition from clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona
and Paris Saint-Germain to sign him.
He has now made six appearances for Brazil, scoring five goals,
with the Selecao on course to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
But he vowed to return to Palmeiras in the future as he waved
goodbye to 40,000 fans at the Allianz Parque in Sao Paulo after claiming their
first title in 22 years.
“Unfortunately this was my last game here,” he said. “This is
not goodbye, this is a ‘see you later.'”
